As a critic and a blogger. I feel that it’s important to always seek out new forms of entertainment. Everyone knows about the really huge movies that are currently in development(” Star Wars
“, “Batman vs Superman“, “Fantastic 4
“). But no one really knows much about any of the smaller projects until they are already released
. It’s important that both bloggers and filmmakers help collaborate on promoting
these projects. In doing so, both parties will be rewarded
. Filmmakers get press for their production and writers get mentioned for their work . I’m going to try and feature some of these new features currently in production at least every month. Trying to do this every few weeks was a lot tougher then I thought.
REVENGEANCE
“Revengeance” is the new animated movie from Bill Plympton and Jim Lujan. The story is about a low rent bounty hunter who has been hired by an ex wrestler turned senator. His job is
to seek out an important item
and find the woman who took it. I have been a fan of Bill Plympton’s work ever since the show Liquid Television was on the air(Which reminds me, that show really should come back
to something like “Adult Swim“) Jim Lujan is an animator whose work I have only just started watching, but from the few shorts
I have seen. I’m very excited about the collaboration between these two animators. Check
out more of this feature by visiting the link
here.
Sylvia
Stop motion animation has got to be one of the most stressful and more painstaking forms of film making ever known. A five minute
scene alone, could take many months to create. That is why I am telling you about this new project from animator Meirav Harber. “Sylvia” is about a young girl who is visited by loveable but deformed creatures in her room
. Are they real or are they just part of Sylvia’s mind is never really known. I have seen clips of Meirav’s other short
film “Stan” and was very impressed with what she created that I wanted to give support to her on this project. Check it
out here.
Trout Stanley at the Storefront
A few months ago I got the opportunity to interview the cast and crew of a really great web series called “Space Janitors“(you can click on the name to hear that show) Tess Degenstein was one of the cast members on that show and I am thrilled to announce that she has a new play that is currently in production. “Trout Stanley at the Storefront” tells the story of two sisters (played by Hannah Spear and Tess Degenstein) whose live their lives on the outskirts of a mining village after the passing of their parents. The two have survived by creating a world of their own and that world could be changing with the introduction of a mysterious runaway( played by Colin Munch) The story and premise sounds a lot like “Beasts of the Southern Wild” meets “Tideland” and I urge you to check out
the campaign below to learn more about it.

Sorry about the lack in posts this week folks , but I will be back with something fun and exciting very soon. Stay tuned.
Great stuff there, Vern! All three projects look amazing! I love animation and stop motion and plays. I’ll be happy to check them out. Kudos to you for doing these posts 🙂
Oh, and speaking of Bill Plympton, did you ever see Idiots & Angels? Highly recommended!
I will for sure check out that flick, and Thank you again for reblogging this on your site,
I have a feeling you’ll love this film. My pleasure ☺
Reblogged this on and commented:
Dear Bloggers and Film Lovers!
The Vern has really great projects here for you to help support! I felt like I really wanted to help him out with his awesome mission and spread the word around. Check them out! There are impressive stuff here. If your a Bill Plympton fan, an Animation fan, a theater fan, or just a fan, you’re bound to love these. Enjoy reading this very caring post and have a wonderful weekend!
Super cool of you to post this! Especially since Sylvia is my project: ) Really appreciate the love and recognition!
Kindly,
Meirav
Wow. Thank you very much for your work in animation. Your character design and set decoration is really good. I would love to future interview you for The As You Watch Podcast sometime in the future.
That’s great you are supporting up-and-coming filmmakers by talking about them on your site. Independent Projects can be good, but I also think a lot of them miss the mark. Did you hear about the kickstarter funded 30 min short Kung Fury (2015) ? Even though they didn’t get enough money for a feature length movie, it should be cool to watch anyway. The trailer is really fun.
Chris. I have not heard of Kung Fury but I will check that one out soon. Thanks for recommending it
