The Vern goes on an Extraordinary Adventures with Adele Blanc-Sec

This review appeared previously on The Vern’s Videovanguard.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec.

Cast:  Louise Bourgoin, Mathieu Amalric

Writer and Director:  Luc Besson

A few years ago at a convention. I got the chance to check out a really great movie that for whatever reason has never been released in the U.S. But now you can watch it on Netflix streaming. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adle Blanc-Sec is a very clever adventure/fantasy in the same kind of style as “The Mummy” or “The Indiana Jones Trilogy” and I hope more people get a chance to see it.  Based on the comics from Jacques Tardi,  this is a fun flick that the whole family will enjoy.  Despite one semi violent death and a quick nude scene.  This is appropriate for children over the age of seven and can read basic books since the movie does have subtitles.

Adele Blanc- Sec(Louise Bourgoin) poses as a temped reporter for a newspaper in the early 1900’s but in actuality is a very good archaeologist.  She is on a quest to retrieve a mummified Pharaoh who can help bring her deceased sister back to life.  Unfortuanately the only doctor who can revive the mummy has also let loose by accident a Pterosauria and has a mind link with said creature too.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele-Blanc-Sec“.is great because it is a whimsical fantasy that  doesn’t try to be realistic with it’s core story.  Too many movies in this genre seem to be afraid of playing it lightly because it may appear to be unrealistic.  This movie makes you believe in it’s core story because of the characters.  There are moments where a few of them are able to do some unbelievable things, but I brought into it completely.    Louise Bourgoin is perfect and charismatic in the lead role, that if this got a wider release.   I guarantee she would be cast in a big budget blockbuster right away.

This is from Luc Besson who is best known for directing  “The Fifth Element” and for co writing the action flick “Taken“.  He has directed  a lot of other movies in his native country and a few of those have managed to come here.  As upset as I am that this didn’t get released in the U.S.  I would be even more upset if this got remade in English.  It wouldn’t matter if was better or on par with the original.  It’s already been done before.   Instead of trying to make movies better, maybe we should start working on our own ideas for once. You can watch this extraordinary adventure on Netflix streaming right now.

A great film which will one day get a sequel much like “The Rocketeer”. It just makes me sad that we don’t get more adventure movies like this, especially as this one is such a blast

  2. The Vern says:

LOL. I just recently watched The Rocketeer. I would have loved to see a sequel but it’s way too late for that. The cast is way too old now. Thanks for the comment

  3. Laura says:

Nice. I liked this one, might watch it again as I don’t remember too much about it.

  4. The Vern says:

It is a good one. I wished they made more. Thanks for the comment
