100 Essential Superhero Movies: Orgazmo

orgazmo_ver2_xlgThe one and only Bubbawheat has a blogathon going over on his site Flights Tights and Movie Nights.(click link to visit the site)  The task is to write up a review on a superhero you feel is important and should be put in with all of the great, heroic characters of this time.  Well it should come as no surprise to those of you who have listened to me on various podcasts that my choice is “Orgazmo“.  This was the feature that Trey Parker made right after “Cannibal: The Musical (Click link to read the review)  and really right before “South Park” made it’s premiere on Comedy Central.  It’s about a Mormon who becomes one of the most famous porn stars ever, and it’s very funny.  Despite the movie being about pornographic films and featuring cameos by adult stars like Juli Ashton, Jill Kelly, and Ron Jeremy.  There is little to no full nudity.  If you are a fan of Parker’s humor you owe it to yourself to see this one.

Cast: Trey Parker, Dian Bachar, Robyn Lynne Raab

Writer and Director: Trey Parker.

Before I can even talk about this movie.  I must first show you the awesome theme song.  This is what first opens our story and it’s pretty epic.  It was performed by DVDA which is a group founded by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Hells Yeah.  Now that is how you open a super hero picture.  I kinda wish more superhero movies opened with that theme.  Imagine how cooler “Man of Steel” would have been if this was used as the main theme instead.  But getting back to the feature at hand. Joe Young(Parker) is a Mormon who is on mission work in California.  One day he knocks on the door of a porno shoot, and gets the director Maxx Orbison(Michael Dean Jacobs) upset for messing up one of his scenes.  Mr. Orbison gets a bunch of his goons to kick Joe’s ass, but to his surprise.  The little Mormon knows how to fight and that’s just the thing he needs for his latest feature about a superhero who has a ray gun that can spray instant orgasms for anyone it hits.    Joe at first declines the offer because it goes against his religious beliefs.  However Maxx promises that he will never actually have sex with any of the girls (“Stunt Cock”, “Stunt Cock”) and that he will pay him over $30,000 dollars for the work.  This is huge for Joe because he does want to get married to his girlfriend Lisa( Raab) and the money would  help with the wedding.    While on set he meets his co star Ben Chapleski(Bachar) who plays the role of his sidekick Choda Boy.  Ben has found a ray to make the Orgazmo Ray a real working device.  So when gangsters begin threatening people he knows.   Joe will have to make the choice to become a real hero or hide his new life from his wife.

orgazmo199712_zps07d25460As I mentioned earlier.  The thing I appreciated about this movie was that it  doesn’t have a lot of nudity.  (Hey I said I appreciated it.  I didn’t say I liked it.) You would think that a movie that casts a bunch of porn stars in it.  It would feature tits galore, but Trey Parker avoids what a lot of viewers would be expecting.  There is one scene when the beautiful Juli Ashton starts to take off her top and right before she does.  Her chest is blocked by an ugly hairy man ass.  This happens almost every time a girl is about to take out her goods.   Al of the sex scenes have people keeping their clothes on and there really is no eroticism to any of it.  It’s just a lot of silly fun.  If you are young and still living at home with your parents.  This is the only porn film you could watch and not care if your parents walk in on you.   The movie is rated NC-17, but that’s just hogwash.  This should of have been rated R and that’s mainly just for the subject matter of it being set around the world of Adult films.   When Trey Parker and Matt Stone were trying to work with the MPAA to get their rating lowered to an R.  They found a lot of struggle because they were with an independent studio.  Cut to a few years later when they made the feature “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut“.  Now they were financed by Paramount, and were able to get it cut down to the rating it got.

Now, you may be asking how is” Orgazmo” an essential super hero movie.  Either that or your googling images of Jill Kelly and Juli Ashton.  Well the character Orgazmo is a hero  for many reasons.  He never betrays his friends, he is always honest, and he never changes who he is.  Joe Young is a believer of the teachings of Jesus Christ, and he never once goes back on what he was taught.  Jesus says to love all people, and even though Joe would never have sex with anyone out of wedlock.  He would never look down on anyone who does.  Even those who have three or maybe four partners  while a bunch of people are around filming them.
